Fat Tuesday
K. and I woke up about five minutes before I had to leave for work this morning (she goes in later today). So I pulled on some clothes and scrambled out into the street with no breakfast, only to realize when I got in that today is Fat Tuesday, aka Mardi Gras, aka Fasnacht, which means my boss will be bringing in Pennsylvania Dutch Fasnacht doughnuts, aka Kinklings (a word that sorta makes me picture little kids dressed in fetish-ware). Score! Since I won't be able to resist a couple of those, it's probably a good thing I didn't eat anything else.

In doughnut-related news, I'm wondering if it's time for me to start eating healthier again. Winter brings out the worst in my bad eating habits. Of course, it's hard to turn to over that particular new leaf when there's still more snow falling outside the window. Of course, more snow also means that my bicycle will continue gathering dust, cheating me out of my exercise of choice.

Anyway, this too shall pass and soon there will be dougnuts. Happy Fat Tuesday, everybody!

Personally, I find fastnachts wholly unappetizing. I take a bite expecting something sweet and just wind up with something entirely un-sweet.

The ones we get are actually pretty sweet. Sugar inside and out.

What's the difference between a faschnaut and a donut?

All I know is that dunut = yummy, and that I had two today!

The Pennsylvania Dutch style Fasnacht doughnuts are sugar doughnuts with a little potato in the dough.

Yeah, not much to dislike about those two, eh?
