Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (the movie!)
Caught about a half hour of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band on HBO this morning while eating breakfast. I remembered enjoying it quite a bit as a kid, but over the years accepted the widely-held opinion that it was utter garbage. Watching it again, I found myself really digging the campness, which was somewhere between Flash Gordon and The Pirate Movie (starring Kristy McNichol and Chris Atkins). I loved that the evil band (played by Aerosmith) was called The Future Villains Band. Unfortunately, I came in too late for Steve Martin doing "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" or Earth, Wind and Fire doing "Got To Get You Into My Life," which I remember as the highlights. I may have to put that on the Netflix queue.
Also, it reminded me of that "documentary" film that splices together WWII newsreels with covers of Beatles songs. Man, I probably haven't seen that since the early 80s either.
