another day off
Took yesterday off to go doctoring with K. She was getting some more tests for her vertigo. Fortunately, her new doctor was way better than the last few and her latest diagnosis has us feeling really positive. After that, we did some food shopping, then watched way too much cable and ate some pizza. Oh, and we finally broke down and put the air conditioners in.

I've got to say two days off in one week is definitely the way to go.

vertigo? you've got to be kidding! this is such a strange co-incidence: my fiancee is having the same problem. what is K's doctor saying? R's doc has ruled out a number of things including pregnancy (!), blood pressure/sugar issues, and thyroid problems. not sure what to think, now. R thinks maybe some kind of inner ear issue related to her cold, plus a ton of stress at work and school? when she posted about it on her FB, a surprising number of her friends (all female) said they'd had to deal with vertigo at one time or another, as well. and everyone's in different places, geographically speaking; also, different ages. odd, odd, odd.

Yeah, she's run into lots of other women with similar problems. The current thought for her is that it's a migraine thing, manifesting in vertigo rather than headaches.

Weird. I'm having the same issues. I've had migraines since I was 18 but now I'm having the vertigo, plus facial tingling and weird vision things that aren't my normal aura, all without the usual headache. I went to the neuro, and we ruled out vertigo caused by visual or inner ear problems. He also did a transcranial doppler bubble test and determined that I had a PFO. Went to a cardiologist, had an echo, and he said my PFO was too small to worry about. But I've heard that closures of these PFOs have been successful in reducing migraines and their associated symptoms (but old-school docs are doubtful because no rigorous trials have been completed; all the evidence is anecdotal).

How is K doing? Has she found anything else out about this?

Ugh, that's rough. Good luck with it. You might want to talk to an ENT if you haven't yet.

K's been doing really well on a drug called Verapamil lately, but she's looking to trade in the drugs for vestibular therapy soon.
