the streets of San Francisco
I'm holding off on the Best of 2008 voting for another week because I'm going out of town and the voting will make for easier cannned posts. So the competition begins a week from today.

In related news, did I mention that I'm going to San Francisco? It's a work trip, so I'll be sequestered at the convention center and arranged dinners most of the time, but I'm still psyched. I've been wanting to go there ever since I first read Tales of the City fifteen years ago. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to best fill my free hours there?

do the standard tourist stuff...it's pretty fun, and easily walkable. embarcadero centre has a lovely fountain, ghirardelli square has all that damn chocolate, fishermens wharf has yummy, cheap food....etc.

avoid the hashbury at all costs. it sucks...it's all gap and starbucks and fuckery.

it's not all the bad. my favorite bar while i was there is on Haight. i stayed not far from there so i wandered haight and ashbury quite a bit. it was many a year ago but there was still some flavor from yester year if you chose to overlook the latest commercial trappings.
