True Blood finale (definite spoilers)
Watched the season finale to True Blood last night. It's an odd little show, never great, never terrible, just always good enough. It's biggest weakness as a show is that the three romantic leads, Sookie, Bill, and Sam, are a little dull. Is anybody really coming back week after week to watch them date and mope? No, of course not. We come back to watch Jason adorably get himself into one stupid jam after another, feisty Tara alternately pushing away and allowing back in the people who love her, and Lafayette doing... well... whatever the hell it is he does that I can't quite put my finger on, but is pure magic. Of course most of that magic comes from Nelsan Ellis' portrayal. I suspect his character wasn't one tenth as interesting on the written page.

And that brings me to the singular best thing about the writing of the show: the cliffhangers. Even the most lackluster episodes have had me jonesing hard for the next one because of them. And the season finale's cliffhanger is going to really be bugging me, because they want the audience to think Lafayette is dead. And damn it, that better not be the case! Fortunately, that episode introduced one other character that could be laying dead in that car, so as far as I'm concerned it's that guy who's dead and Lafayette is merely off at that vampire court being judged for the murder of Stephen Root's character. Hopefully the vampire magistrate will find him as endearing as I do.
