Outer Banks, part one

We got off to an early start yesterday and had a lovely drive down the Delmarva Peninsula (so named because of the three different states that claim parts of it). At the peninsula's end, we crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, which is truly awesome. Twenty-three miles long, this low, scenic bridge crosses the opening of the bay, briefly changing from bridge to tunnel at two points to accommodate the shipping lanes, landing you right in Virgina Beach. Then it was just a hop, skip and a jump to North Carolina and the Outer Banks. We arrived before the rest of K's family, so we grabbed some much needed barbeque and beer. I had pulled pork, ribs, smashed potatoes, green beans, and deep fried sticks of corn bread. Yum!

When the rest of the crew showed up (with the keys!), we divied up rooms, leaving them the nicer rooms in the house in exchange for the privacy of apartment over the garage. The house is really splendid, right on the beach, and well set-up. It's got multiple kitchens, a pool table, and a hot tub! Needless to say, we were in that hot tub not long after the sun went down.

K's at the beach now and I'm gonna join after a little blogging and lunch.

Happy labor day!
