a vacation of sorts
We're going to North Carolina for a week with about a dozen of K's family. I'm kind of dreading it, but trying to be optimistic even in the face of overwhelming family. Fortunately we have the new laptop so I hopefully do some writing. And I might pick up a copy of Civilization for the DS today. I also hope to finish some of the books I've been simultaneously reading.

We'll be on the Outer Banks, a long string of barrier islands off the coast, which seems like an ideal place to be during hurricane season. It's where the Wright Brothers flew their famous flight and the English colony of Roanoke vanished under mysterious circumstances.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to tap into anyone's wireless there, but if so, I'll do some posting.

What a strange little bottom.
I think this may be an "ass smile".

What a fantastic ass matrix. You couldn't have explained everything any better. Great visuals too. They definitely made things perfectly clear during the more confusing parts of the text. I concur with the "ass smile" diagnosis. I'm detecting somewhat of an "apple bottom" though. A small, sweet apple mind you. Definitely not the large, juicy type.

You'll have to tell me if Civilization for the DS is any good. I haven't been able to decide if I want to get it for the DS or the PS3 or both. I like portable strategy, but if it is too simplified....

It's definitely simplified, but not in a bad way. They basically removed the most micro-managing elements of running cities and kept everything else. The chief drawback for me is that the worlds are a little small (at least in the early levels). I'm definitely hooked.

So, it still plays basically like a Civilization game, then? I kinda liked Age of Empires on the DS, but it wasn't much like the PC game at all. But since it was only 15 dollars by the time I bought it, I wasn't too annoyed.

Civilisation on the PS3 is really like a different game entirely to the PC version - more compact, shorter, less visually demanding, less options. That said, I've played it for days myself and really enjoyed trying to beat it in different ways. Never played the DS version though....

I've played the PS3 demo, and I kinda liked it. I'm willing to sacrifice a little complexity for the ease of playing with a controller while sprawled on the couch, I guess. But the PS3 TV is usually occupied. So if the DS version is not too much more simplified than the PS3 version, that might be the best choice all around for me.

I've never played the ps3 version but from what I hear the DS is the same game but with less animation.
