wayback wednesday: a question for all the scientists and pseudo-scientists and science-fictionists  
Assuming you were a brilliant scientist with plenty of financial and military support, how would you go about reactivating a volcano that's been dormant for a little over a century?

What about if I happened to somehow know that this particular volcano was only twenty-some years from its next naturally-occuring eruption?

Well, 'next' naturally occuring is a bit of a misnomer since earthquakes and eruptions can't be accurately forecast in much more than terms of probability...

Extinction means that there is little seismological activity and whatnot going on and is something that can be observed over time. Thus by the time geologists realise a volcano has gone extinct it would usually be 'too late' to do anything about it.

You're better of blindfolding the girl and taking her to an active volcano, and possibly lying to her that it used to be extinct...
