like one of those tv chefs measuring out all my ingredients in little bowls before I start cooking
My notebooks are all transcribed and the map is finished, so now I can get down to the serious business of.... ummm... writing the songs that will appear in my novel!

Yes, I have masterfully come up with yet another delaying tactic. I reckon I'm a pretty great example of how not to write a novel. Future generations of budding novelists can look back at me and say "Well, that clearly is not the way to get things done."

But I'm having fun with it and that's important for me going into this. The actual writing of sentences is usually a pretty dark process for me, full of a lot of self-hatred and doubt in my ability.

Besides writing song lyrics is totally fun.

The trick is to give yourself permission to suck while writing.

It's hard not to edit while writing sometimes. ;)

I try, but I can really only pull it off if I anesthetize that part of my brain with rum first.

I want a pair of undies with a huge boy on the back.

So, will we get to see a SONG when its finished? :P

How huge does the boy have to be?

Writing and critique are two entirely separate activities. When you write, write because it pleases *you* to write. Your enjoyment will make itself evident. Once you've completed a section, however long or short, only then critique it. But sure as stupidity, do NOT allow yourself to hate yourself for what you're doing! That's kinda like trying to swim with cement block ankle weights, no?

I write what I like because I LIKE to write. Will I ever sell/publish? Dunno... I'm not writing for anyone other then myself and the enjoyment I get in spinning a yarn.

C'mon, man...you have work to hate...don't hate yourself OR your work.

So far so good on the not hating. But I'm still worried that it's waiting to pounce at every corner.
