Most of the trees on the street in front of my office building are still plush with red and orange leaves. Except for the ones in the direct line of sight from my office window! Those were the first ones to go (to deciduate?). Despite being, as far as I can tell, the exact same species of tree. Beware, living things, my gaze will cause you to whither and die!!!
