It's really easy to blame the bad mood I'm in on my current efforts to lose weight. It's really tempting to think that everything would be better after a big sloppy cheeseburger and fries with a couple pints of lager.

In fact, that's pretty much exactly what I think.

It's not easy to lose weight, but it is simple. Take in less calories than you burn. That frequently requires substantial lifestyle changes (dietary changes as well as physical activity changes). I'm presently on my way from 260, presently at 210, and the goal is 180.

Ain't easy...but ain't impossible, either.

I won't ever be good looking, but at least people won't stand under me for the shade I provide...and I'll be able to lie on a beach without Greenpeace trying to drag me back into the water.

I agree with you. At least, everything would feel better. Frankly, I don't think it is possible to lose weight without going hungry for a while, until your appetite resets to a lower level. Anyone who says there is a painless way to do it is selling you something.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. I don't do well with hunger. Maybe I can meditate my way through it.

I hear ya. I'm trying to do one simple thing, and that's not guzzle mass quantities of Mt. Dew...but after a long day at work...it seems to me that I'd rather be sugared up than lithe.

Hey, I finally made the switch to Diet Mt. Dew. Having read about the evils of High Fructose Corn Syrup, I'm avoiding it wherever I can. The Diet chemicals are probably bad for me too, but...I'm also replacing the caffeine vehicle with tea. Stash chai! Mmmmm...!

Good luck Ass Monkey with your dieting. Yes, it's true. Eating a high calorie/high carb "snack" will lift your spirits. But it'll lift your weight, cholesterol, insulin immunity, etc... @ the same time. Try a high protein snack. I find I'm not quite as happy, even tending towards agressive, but it ultimately makes me feel better.

Have to learn to like being "hungry" too!

Thanks. Would a handful of roasted peanuts be a good high protein snack? Because that satisfys my cravings pretty well.

Yeah, soda's pretty bad. I know that the Mexican version of Coke (which you can sometimes get in America) has good, old-fashioned sugar (instead of high fructose corn syrup), so it tastes better and is less bad for you. I wonder if they do the same thing with Mountain Dew.

Hmmm...I've never seen Mexican Coke around here either. That would be nice.
