In case of Labyrinth, build wax wings....
So when trying to decide what movie I'm going to see this weekend, I see that Labyrinth is playing for some reason. Yes, that Labyrinth. The one with David Bowie and muppets. Do I need to see that? I can't remember ever watching it all the way through, but I worry that I'll find it too silly. On the other hand, I do love me some David Bowie. Hmmm.... I guess this calls for a poll:

Poll #1036776 Labyrinth

Should I see Labyrinth on the big screen this weekend?

Yes, the power of David Bowie will heal you.
Good god, no! That movie was awful....
Why are you even asking this question when you haven't seen "Rescue Dawn" yet?!?!?

Of course, Stardust opens this weekend also :)

Mr. Bowie's package will juggle you. You've been warned.

Well, it has been a while since I've been properly package-juggled....

Don't get me wrong, I love David Bowie with an all-consuming passion. But his film choices tend to be... well, silly was a pretty good word for it.

Labyrinth is a hokey, goofy, stupid movie. If you know that going in, you might have a good time.

B-b-but you have to agree that The Man Who Fell to Earth is great, right? And what about Absolute Beginners? Oooh, I think need to put Absolute Beginners on my netflix queue immediately....
doNUT!donutgirl on August 10th, 2007 01:22 pm (UTC)
Okay, I stand somewhat corrected. I haven't seen Absolute Beginners, but I just remembered that Bowie was pretty awesome (and not silly) in The Prestige and The Last Temptation of Christ. I just remember when I was in college and first becoming obsessed with Bowie, I expected all his films to be towering works of genius. And some of them just... aren't.

Well, if it helps your decision any--Labyrinth was written by Terry Jones.

It is quite a lot of fun and there's always Jennifer Connelly to gawk at.

Hmmm... those two facts do sweeten the pot a little.

Pretty good effects, too. The only really bad part is the Fire Gang scene because the bluescreen lines are really, really obvious.

And David Bowie's wee-wee adores being seen, I'm sure....

His Bowieness.
That reminds me. A friend loaned me Season 2 of The Venture Bros. animated Series, and Bowie shows up as a major character in the last 2 episodes. Also, one of his henchmen is Iggy Pop. Very humorous. There is a disclaimer that the voice work is not the real Bowie, but I wonder.

Re: His Bowieness.
Hehe... that sounds fun. I've been meaning to give that show a try.

Re: His Bowieness.
I. Love. The. Venture. Bros. - you should absolutely, positively, give it a try. It makes me laugh so hard, and has two of my most favorite fictional characters ever. I could be all geeky, and relate scenes and whatnot that I thought were hysterical, but you know ... I'd hate myself later.

The power of Bowie's crotch compels you!

Plus, I love that stupid movie. Right up there with Mystery Men, whatever the hell movie gave us "buddy christ" (the evil angels...M...m something, I think) and 'a year without santa'.

Do it. You'll thank yourself for it PLUS you'll have catchy tunes in your head all weekend!

I've been compelled by worse certainly.

Hi Penny!

I just saw the movie about a month ago for the first time. I thought it was okay, but I had to fast forward through a lot of the songs. Until my boyfriend asked me not to. He liked it a lot. He wanted to watch the musical numbers. And he's always complaining about the "weird" movies I like and make him watch. Go figure.
