"Trouble coming he don't see, he just keeps his eyes on me..."
K.'s stepfather passed away thursday night, casting considerable gloom over the weekend. He was a great, hilarious guy. I can vividly recall walking around South Philly with him teaching me the lyrics to that old "I don't care if it rains or freezes as long as I got my plastic Jesus" song. He had already been diagnosed with terminal cancer when he married K.'s mom, but they really made the most of the two years they had together. We'll miss him a lot.

Thanks, H. Everybody's been doing a great job of helping each other and holding it together. K.s mom has been amazing me with how strong she is.

I'm glad that you could be there in her time of need. I know that you couldn't have had an easy time.

There is never anything good to say at a time like this. I hope that you and K are doing well. You are in my thoughts.

Thank you. I think we're gonna be ok, at least once K. gets back on her sleep schedule.

That sucks.

Do you live in South Philly?

Yup and yup. A few blocks east of the Melrose Diner.

Holy shit dude. Next time my wife and I are out there visiting her grandparents, we'll have to meet for a drink or something. They live right on Colorado, South of Oregon. They're on the block with the "terrace" as they refer to it. The first time I was there, I couldn't understand what the big deal was with a little patch of grass and a few trees on an island in the middle of the street. After I'd seen more of Philly, and particularly South Philly, I came to understand its appeal.
