Go watch "The Riches" (like as soon as possible, because it's sooo good)
Okay, The Riches is my favorite show on tv right now (I think it's on FX). I watched the first three episodes this weekend and can't wait to watch more. It stars Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver as "Travellers" (sort of like gypsies of Irish descent if I understand things correctly). Essentially they (and their three children) are a team of con artists, which provides for a lot of great comic moments, but they're also being pursued by the other Travellers for transgressions against the family, which makes for plenty of drama. So far the writing and acting are all superb. It's as good as Dexter.

No film reviews todays. I'll get back on those tomorrow. I skipped my first few films for the festival yesterday because I'm sick and it was pouring rain out, but I forced myself to trudge out for my last two films of the day, only to find the theater had lost their electricity and weren't showing anything. So, I went home and watched the first two episodes of Drive which was ok, about as good as Prison Break (slight praise consider it's a Tim Minear project). I'll probably watch it just for Nathan Fillion.

I am also watching The Riches, because I love Eddie Izzard. It took me a little while to get warmed up to the concept of taking him out of the dress and putting him into a drama. I was afraid it would be squandering his considerable comedic talents, but he seems to be more than a one trick pony. Still, my favorite moments are when he lets slip some Eddie-ism like "easy-peasy-japanesey" and sounds more like the Eddie I know.

And at least he passed his cross-dressing down to his youngest boy.

Sounds cool, I'll check it out. Yeah, the travellers are often lumped w/ gypsies in terms of some shared cultural practices (wandering in wagons or trailers for example) but are not the same "ethnic" or linguistic group as the Roma. ' 'trix

You didn't get cable, did you? If not I reckon I could burn a few up for you and the mister.

I'm Watching It!
I've been watching The Riches, too. I started watching because I wanted to see Izzard outside of the stand-up. I was curious about his acting and I have not been disappointed. I think the whole cast does an awesome job. I'm a little doubtful about some of the situations they find themselves in and extricate themselves from. I feel like I have to spend a lot of time suspending my belief. Although if my grandmother was still around she'd say that the characters have the "luck of the Irish" on their side and that's why they're able to continue the charade without it falling apart. The other reason that I started watching is because I am fairly convinced that my house was built by Travelers.

Re: I'm Watching It!
Yeah, hopefully the good luck will be kept relatively in check by equal amounts of bad luck.
