cash as a gift?
I still need to buy two Christmas presents, for a niece and a nephew, and I have no idea what to get. I don't even know what stores to buy gift certificates for them at. And I can't get their mom on the phone.

Wait, this is why aunts and uncles sometimes give cash as gifts, isn't it? I always loved cash as a gift when I was a kid, so why do I feel like it's cheesey to be on the other end of the intergenerational cash gift?

Cash is not exciting, and feels unthoughtful...but yeah, I must confess, as a kid there was no better present than that wad of cash I'd accumulate to buy whatever my little heart desired.

I like to get cash as a gift, but I hate to give it.

Why is that? The commercialization makes us think we have to BUY something?

I gave my nephew a Target gift card for his birthday, and he had a whole fun shopping trip & he even bought his sister a little thing on his card. I guess it's a little "Intro to Consumerism," but he felt very grownup--

fortunately for me my sister has an amazon.com wishlist for her and my neice and nephew. It helped a lot. I ended up buying both of them the new Creative Zen V Plus 4gig media player. I've also included like 6 or 7 CD's of their favorite music copied to them.

heh my parents got them *scoff* toys. I guess I'm just a total geek. Gotta get geek toys. The only suckage is that now after playing with it some, I want one! I'm holding out for the Zen Vision M: hehe. Good luck. 3 days left.

We give our nieces and nephews cash. I like to do that rather than a gift certificate because given the choice, I'd rather receive cash instead of having to spend it in a certain place.

I remember as a kid loving to get money from aunts and uncles. You always get lots of cool gifts, but a little cash is always nice too!
