weekend report

Well, that was a much nicer weekend than I expected. Saturday it was pouring raining and K. had to work, but since I was stuck at home, I decided to dust off the novel and get some writing done. It's been nearly four months since I've poked around it, so I was afraid it would be difficult to get back into, but I wrote a couple pages out and was pretty satisfied with the direction it was heading. Then K. got home and we hung out for a couple hours watching the original Fame film until I had to head out into the rain to meet up with people for drinks.

Got kind of soaked getting to the bar, but had a great time anyway. About a dozen or so of us met up at Lucky Strikes for my friend Stephen's birthday. Shot some pool, drank a lot of rum, ate some decadent snacks like deep fried mac & cheese bites. It was a really fun time and I must have gotten fairly drunk because after I got to sleep I had dreams about being wildly drunk.

On Sunday we had to go visit my parents, because my oldest brother was in town with his wife and baby. It was kind of awkward and odd, like none of us actually wanted to be there, but afterwards K. and I swung by my other brother's house and had a really nice time hanging out with his eldest daughter, catching up on what's going on in her life.

We got out of Pitman with enough time to head out towards the Wissahickon, but when we called our friends Jen & Kim to see if they wanted to catch some dinner out that way, they invited us to join them at Morris Arboretum, a 92-acre Victorian garden full of winding paths, streams, statuary, neat little buildings, and of course loads of rare and interesting plants. We hung out in the tree house and explored this cool, mazelike building some artists had made completely out of soft tree branches, like a sort of giant wicker seashell. Jen and I rolled down a big hill. It was a great time. Afterwards, we had a great meal at the Tavern on the Hill in Chestnut Hill. I had a delicious pulled beef sandwich with cheddar and a really good horseradish sauce.

I have to go down to DC for work tomorrow, so I probably won't be posting. See you Wednesday!
