random subway thoughts

It must have been fun to be an inventor in the first half of the 20th century. Inspiration was everywhere. Throw "electric" onto the front of any household item and off you go. Throw "machine" onto the back of any daily chore and then you're off to the workshop.

If you were a sci-fi writer trying to imagine the future back then, I suppose you'd think "atomic" was going to be the new "electric." Gee, this new atomic blanket sure does keep me warm! Imagine how shiny your teeth will be with this new atomic toothbrush!

news of varied import

Well, after just nine weeks, I'm already bored of Fantassy Fridays. They may reappear from time to time, but only when I have really good one.

But the really shocking news (at least for anyone who knows me in what the kids call "real life") is that I finally broke down and bought a cell phone. At last, late 20th-century technology is within my grasp. In the end I was motivated by K. going out of town for a few days and, of course, my patriotic duty to spend what little money I had recklessly in order to save our nation's failing economy.
