amd: orange peek

In the subway station this morning, we had one of those guys blaring his music for everyone to hear. Judging from the distortion he was getting by cranking this little electronic device up well beyond its purview, I assume he was not using the volume just to augment his personal musical experience. In fact I feel it's safe to say that his goal was to share his musical taste with everyone present. Letting everyone know he was there and who he was. A bit of transient audio graffiti.

And I can understand that, believe me. Every once in while, driving in the car, I feel the same urge. So what astounded me was not the act itself, only the choice of song, which he repeated at least twice while I was there. What song did this young man choose to brand his existence onto the consciousness of all the early morning commuters?

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler.
