wayback wednesday: Jimi

In 1967, the mostly unknown Jimi Hendrix Experience toured Europe, opening for Engelbert Humperdinck. Think about that for second. Even fans of the Rolling Stones and the Who weren't prepared for what Jimi was doing back then... can you imagine what the average Engelbert Humperdinck fan made of that show!

Their next tour, hot on the heels of their success at the Monterey Pop Festival, was with the Monkees (apparently Jimi was good friends with Peter Tork), another botched match-up that resulted in the Experience being kicked off the tour, supposedly because of complaints from the Daughters of the American Revolution.
