"Match Point" and "Memoirs of a Geisha"

Nice weekend. Saw "Match Point" on saturday, which I thought was kind of tedious, but had Belgian frites and gigantic glasses of Hoegaarden beforehand so it was still a perfectly lovely afternoon.

And on Sunday, the girl and I went to see "Memoirs of a Geisha" which was terrific. My only real complaint was that everyone spoke English in it. I guess I've seen too many foreign films and I just don't understand why Americans are so afraid of subtitles. Now, if everyone in the movie was Japanese that wouldn't have bothered me as much. It would have just been the magic of the medium making Japanese sound like English. The problem was that halfway through the film, the Americans show up and there's no communications barrier at all. I can't believe that all those characters spoke such perfect English and there's no damn way the American soldiers were speaking perfect Japanese.

(Also, for those who expressed concern/intrigue about the age of the young lady in Friday's photo. The model was Farrah Summerford and she was born in 1977 and I'm assuming the photograph isn't all that old.)
