This weekend, the girl and I hit a used bookshop and I scored a Jimi Hendrix bio, a David Bowie bio, and "Lord of Light" by Zelazny (which I've been searching for for ages). I can't wait to read all three, but instead I'm kinda slogging my way through "Rendezvous With Rama."

Clarke's a bit bizzare to me, because he seems to be into sci fi more for the highly methodical descriptions of space travel minutae, rather than the cheap thrills of space monsters, jet packs and ray guns. He's great at it though, so I like him even though he's pretty much the opposite of everything I stand for when it comes to sci fi.

I've only read the Corwin stories of the Chronicles of Amber, but Zelazny is a pretty fun writer. I was advised against reading Merlin's stories, but I may do so anyhow someday.

If you ever venture into tabletop roleplaying, the diceless Amber game is great fun (though out of print) if you enjoyed the setting and characters of Amber.
