the festival is over...

Well, I fell way short of my plan to see 44 films, but 36 turned out to be plenty. Fortunately yesterday started with a fantastic one...

Welcome to Dongmakgol: Set during the Korean War, this charming drama tells the story of an isolated rural village whose inhabitants are completely (and happily!) cut off from the rest of the world. When soldiers from both sides of the conflict stumble across the village, however, they threaten to destroy the peaceful utopia, but ultimately come together in an effort to save it. I would highly recommend it. Even though it's certainly not as much of a fantasy story, it really remind me of Miyazaki's "Spirited Away" and would probably appeal to the same audience.
