wayback wednesday: things that time travel ruined for me
I actually had dreams about time travel last night. They were very odd. In one of them, I went back in time and found out that the Blues were actually invented by a New York City advertising executive as a gimmick to promote the Sears Roebuck mail order service to illiterates (since they were unable to read the catalog). So each song would start out about what the singer didn't have, and end with the realization that he could order it from Sears and have it in just 4-6 weeks.

And speaking of time travel, continuing from last week, here's Miss July 1961...

Hideously behind, I'm afraid. I just finished reading some revised chapters from another friend's novel, and am now playing catch-up on a book about the 1893 Chicago World's Fair for my girlfriend's bookgroup. As soon as I get that done though, I'm on it.

That's the one. It's pretty gripping so far.

Some people say that bowling alleys got big lanes (got big lanes! got big lanes!) - Some people say that bowling alleys all look the same (look the same! look the same!) - there's not a rhyme here that goes with anything (anything! anything!) I had a dream last night, but I forget what it was (what it was! what it was!)

Sorry, just singing along, too.

"Every day, I get up and pray to Jah
and he decreases the number of clocks
by exactly one..."

Are you sure he's not increasing? He could be decreasing; you never can tell with that Jah.

Oddly, I always thought he was INCREASING the number of PINS, but after checking Camper Van's website last night, I now know the truth.

And my life in Jah can never be the same.

Oh, you're right; I defer to your lyrical recall. Does it excuse me if I say I haven't heard the song in a few years? Nope, it doesn't.
