Cheeseburger with a side of cheeseburger, please!
So Jess over at http://frieswiththatshake.net/ started a Burger Club that meets roughly monthly to eat and rate the goods at different joints around Philly. I missed the first one at Good Dog because of the film festival, but went to the second one last night.

Five Guys is chain that started in DC and recently opened in Philly. I've got to say that for fast food joint, they really hit it out of the park. Fresh, never frozen beef smashed on the grill, loads of topping options. I had a regular Bacon Cheeseburger (which is actually a double burger) and because that was so good I also got a Little Cheeseburger (which is just a single burger). I was literally making "mmmm" noises every bite. So delicious. And I particularly liked how the bacon was chopped into bite-sized pieces, making it easier and less messy to eat.

The fries were a little underdone, but that was probably just because there were about thirty of us showing up at once (a fast food nightmare) and they were trying their best to keep us moving. As my friend Dave said, we were pretty much a flash mob.

The only downsides were the prices (a bit higher than I would have expected) and the overly bright lighting, although the steady stream of classic rock helps alleviate the light to some extent.

5 Guys is the heat! I've been eating there since the mid-90s at the original one on Route 7. Cheap and AWESOME. not to mention they're very generous with the fries.

glad you can enjoy them now too!

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed they were so old. They really are crazy generous with the fries.

Cheeseburger Chaser?

Hehe... and it's chasing my early heart attack!

No fear. The fat forms a kind of greasy "battering ram" that plunges all the old fat out of your arteries. No lie. I went to a university where some people do science, so I know all about it.

And that's why you're my favorite science advisor!

I can't join your club, but if I ever make it back to Boston I should start one up there. :)

Love the picture today.

Hey, we have a couple of 5 Guys (that's confusing) here in C-ville. They are indeed quite tasty. The only problem is not filling up on the free peanuts.

Those free peanuts come in very handy when you've got thirty people in line in front of you!

Have you ever had any West Coast Burgers?

If you ever make it out West, start here:

I haven't, but I will... some day! When I was in San Fran in January, I was really hoping to get an In-and-Out burger, but never found one.

That's because there aren't any in SF! You have to go slightly south to Daly City. :)

In-N-Out
Wow, great that you had the 5 Guys, they opened up a few in North Jersey. Two within 10 miles of my house! They are great!

In-N-Out in SF is at Fisherman's Wharf, just take the streetcar from downtown all the way to the end, it's kinda hidden, but it's the only fast food chain they allowed at the Wharf. It is godly!

Let me know the next time you're in NYC, I have to take you to the Shake Shack. Disneyland-sized waits during nice days, but not too bad if you can eat at odd times.

Re: In-N-Out
Ah... I only had eyes for fried seafood when I was at the Wharf.

I've heard great things about Shake Shack, so yes!

You're JUST getting to Five Guys? They've been in Philly for at least two years now in Center City. Amazing stuff. Now you gotta make up for all the time you missed! Eat, eat!

it looks her tights have slipped down some. here, let me help with that...

hm, your double-burger is like my recent habit of making a burger with a side of burger (veggie). it's kinda doubly satisfying.

also, i guiltily enjoy a red robin burger from time to time. also chain with obnoxious interior, but great burgers and endless fries...
