2008 Philadelphia Film Festival
Well, it's Philadelphia Film Festival time again. Too soon for me to be taking another full-on vacation, but the festival is one of my annual traditions and the movies don't start until the afternoon, so I'll just work a lot of half days.

It's movies from all over the world, in all sorts of genres and languages. This year, there's plenty of sex, violence, comedy, drama, and supernatural horror, some interesting animation and shorts, and a good catch from my two favorite filmmaking countries: India and South Korea. They're showing the new Stuart "Re-Animator" Gordon film, the original silent version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (with live music by the band Golden Ball), and a Muslim telling of the story of Jesus that I'm kind of curious about.

I generally aim for three movie days, with four movie days from friday to sunday. Last year, I made it to 31 of the films (36 in 2006, 39 in 2005). My tentative schedule for this year has 41 films, but I anticipate that I'll drop anywhere from 5-10 of those depending on my energy level, the curvature of my spine, and the dryness of my eyes.

I just got the program in the mail; if you wouldn't mind some company, I might actually come out for a few.

It must cost a lot of money to see that many movies.

Is The Sea Within the same as The Sea Inside, or is it a totally different movie?

Y'know... I was wondering why that title sounded so familiar.

But no, totally different movies. This one is an Indian film about a woman going a little crazy because she's cheating on her husband.

Now I feel truly clueless. Normally I've heard of one or two of the films that you propose to see. Things year not a one.

I've seen a trailer for Priceless and a poster for Roman de Gare, but that's it. Outside of what I've seen in the festival catalog, the rest are pretty much unknown quantities to me.

IT'S TOO SMALL
Don't do this to me all at once. First a list of films I'll maybe lucky to see a handful of, and then you post an image that's the perfect wallpaper only it's too damn small. Curse you Ass-Monkey, you have vexed me again.
