Stardust
Finally saw Stardust sunday night and quite enjoyed it. I never read the book, but feared nonetheless that the presence of Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro would ruin it. Nothing against them as actors; they just seemed so clearly wrong for the project. But everybody in it did fine. The story bounced along quite effortlessly for something written by Gaiman and director Matthew Vaughn proved that he can do far more than just crime stories (bring on The Might Thor, I say). And hey! Iceland even made a cameo in the film! The best part was the hilarious reactions of the seven princes at various points, although Ricky Gervais also came perilously close to stealing the show. All in all, I'd say that reviewers who called it a contemporary version of The Princess Bride were not too off, although it certainly falls short of that masterpiece.

Room for improvement
I enjoyed it but the movie could have been an order of magnitude better if only they'd followed through on the Pfeiffer-Dane massage scene.

Awesome picture. Chicks with musical instruments are hot.

As for Stardust...there were some things to like about it, but I think I would have liked it better if they would have went a little more adult with it and not worried about the kiddy appeal. It bored me in places.

The scripts seemed virtually designed with points where more adult material could have easily been plugged in.

Glad to hear you liked the film. It is a good one. You can't beat Bobby De Niro in his dressing room, worth the price of admission for my money!

If you didn't know it, John Simm is married to the Gypsy princess.

In interest of full disclosure, I'm a big fan of Neil.

I love his comics for the most part, but I'm less into his fiction (with the exception of Good Omens).

Interesting about about Simm's wife...

Beautiful ass aside (and I'm a sucker for the corsets, too), that's one MIGHTY fine looking piano.
